Kasa smart home products from TP-Link typically supported Google and Alexa, but not HomeKit. It could be changing. TP-Link recently began shipping smart plugs in the United States that work with Apple’s smart home ecosystem. The Kasa Smart Wi-Fi Plug Slim is currently available in a 4-pack, with a 2-pack expected later in 2022.
Bringing Support for Kasa Smart Controls to HomeKit
The Kasa Smart Wi-Fi Plug Slim, the company’s first product with HomeKit support, provides an easy way to make your home smarter. To make the plug smarter, you can plug in any device, such as a lamp or a coffee maker.
This means you can control the light or other accessory using voice commands or an app on your device. You can also programme the accessory to turn on or off based on certain conditions. Previously, even Alexa and Hey were limited to the Google Assistant.
The plugs now also support HomeKit. This means you can add a smart plug to your iPhone’s Home app. If you have a HomeKit hub, such as a HomePod or Apple TV, you can also control the plug remotely.
Monitor your device’s energy usage with the Tp-Link Kasa Smart Wi-Fi Plug Slim
In addition to adding HomeKit support to its product line, the Kasa Smart Wi-Fi Plug Slim allows you to monitor your device’s power consumption. The plugs send data to your smart home controller in real time, allowing you to monitor how much power the lamp consumes.
Other features include grouping, which allows you to control multiple smart plugs at the same time with a single button or voice command. You can programme the lights to turn on and off at random intervals while on vacation using the Kasa Smart app’s built-in Away mode. Even when you are away, this gives the impression that you are at home.
One thing I’ve discovered about smart plugs is that they frequently prevent you from using adjacent plugs in your electrical outlet. Smart plugs are frequently so long that another outlet becomes clogged as a result. Kasa’s new smart plug design is smaller, leaving the extra socket available for use.
Make sure you get the latest Kasa smart plug model with HomeKit support, which is listed as EP25. It is currently available in a 4-pack for $49.99. A 2-pack with an MSRP of $29.99 will be available on Amazon in 4Q22.
