Is the PS4 Still Worth Buying in 2022?

Current-gen consoles have been out for about a year and a half, so you may wonder if the PS4 is still worth buying in 2022. After all, the PS5 can do more than the PS4. We’ll see what the reasons, if any, would be for buying a PS4 right now.

There are two conditions for buying a PS4 in 2022:

  1. You can’t get a PS5, and you don’t own a PS4.
  2. You get a really good deal.

Despite the PS5 coming back in November 2020. It’s still hard to find at retail prices. In such a situation, many people have stopped buying one. However, stock levels still haven’t started to return to normal. As a result, those who don’t have a PS4 and have decided to wait are missing out on a great library of games.

However, even if you do decide to buy a PS4, there are some caveats. The best model, the PlayStation 4 Pro, is no longer in production. Sony stopped making that console in late 2020, and there’s little or no stock left. So, you can expect to pay a premium for it at many online stores.

The only version of the console still in production is the PS4 Slim. Unfortunately, it’s limited to 1080p, and you’ll need a PS4 Pro or PS5 to play in ultra-high definition. The Slim is also harder to find, and Amazon sellers are pricing in and charging almost double the MSRP.

So, the only way to tackle the PS4 in 2022 is if you can find a good deal on the PS4 Pro. Sellers on eBay have some good deals on refurbished models as written, so it shouldn’t be too hard to find one that works for you. Otherwise, we’ll save our money for the PS5.
